I was reading the December 2009 “Readers Digest” about stereotypes Charity Ohlund posted on her blog “In the Weeds”. I really enjoyed it, being a former waitress myself.

The last stereotype listed stated a business woman hosting a business dinner does not tip as well as a business man and finished with the phrase “please enlighten me”. I happen to know the answer to this question. It was a mystery that baffled me for years but the answer is quite simple. I learned it is because these business men have higher salaries than business women. Even if they have the same job/experience/education/position in the company/etc. women have lower salaries.

I hope this solves the mystery for you, Charity.

    Thanks! :)

Just read your post about “Dad Almirall” (my friend Rob), through a link in FaceBook. Appreciated the stories and descriptions. We miss him.

A Google search for “Professor Harvey Asher” just led me to a response to your delightful “5 Geeks We Love” posting that added said professor to an impressive collection of lovable geeks. I have the good fortune to be married to Professor Harvey Asher (Drury University, 1967-2003) — and to love him, of course — and thought you and your followers might enjoy his latest venture: America–The Owner’s Manual: How Your Country Really Works and How to Keep It Running, recently launched at To paraphrase your own description, one might call his approach “Modern America meets history with an attitude.”

I just read the most judgmental, ignorant up its own ass piece called 9 Things You Will Find At Disney World by Shannon Hood. Who would pay all that money to spend the whole day complaining and bitching about everyone around them? I am trying to convince my sister who has been through so much and desperately wants to go to Disneyland that it will be okay. She is plus size and is also disabled. Its people like shannon hood who ruin peoples confidence to get out and live their lives. I would like to see what Shannons body would look like after 20 years of taking steroids to keep her alive. I know this piece was written in 2010 but but it still comes up on google. There is nothing constructive about it. its hateful, cheap and cruel.

Let the men wear there hair the way they want. You need to get over yourself. Think anyone cares when you did and are in a casket. Was it worth doing all this taboo paranoia. You think it is. Give it up. You need to look back in history and notice that men did such things. It may be archaic, but far from, wrong.
