I was reading the December 2009 “Readers Digest” about stereotypes Charity Ohlund posted on her blog “In the Weeds”. I really enjoyed it, being a former waitress myself.
The last stereotype listed stated a business woman hosting a business dinner does not tip as well as a business man and finished with the phrase “please enlighten me”. I happen to know the answer to this question. It was a mystery that baffled me for years but the answer is quite simple. I learned it is because these business men have higher salaries than business women. Even if they have the same job/experience/education/position in the company/etc. women have lower salaries.
