SNL Highlights: Jesse Eisenberg
Jesse Eisenberg pulled off his hosting gig on SNL quite admirably. The actor is known for dry delivery in most of his movies. He’s one of my favorite actors, and he has starred in The Social Network (he also got an Oscar nomination for that role), Adventureland, The Squid and the Whale, Zombieland, and Roger Dodger. He’s a bit more understated than many of SNL’s hosts, so I was pretty pleased with a solid show.
I have no idea how musical guest Nicki Minaj sounded, because I was mesmerized by her massive pile of gravity-defying hair and her giant dress that reminded me of spun cotton candy.
The cold open featured Kristin Wiig as a clueless Michelle Bachmann. The big question of the evening was whether or not Mark Zuckerberg would make an appearance, and indeed he did during the opening monologue. I think he was a pretty good sport on the show. Jesse relatively poised under the circumstances as well.
Per usual, my favorite skit was the digital short, this time entitled “Do the Creep.” John Waters (yay) introduced the clip.
Although it was completely politically incorrect, I laughed my butt off at the Estro-maxx commercial. I am sure transgenders were fuming, but it was damn funny.
The Mr. Wizard skit was juvenille, but seeing Eisenberg sporting a prince valiant haircut and some sweet corduroys is worth the watch. A couple of teenagers on the science show let their hormones get the most of them, much to the chagrin of Mr. Wizard.
Bill Hader resurrected the popular Herb Welch character for the following skit. This character has really grown on me. The aging television reporter was at his finest last night.
Finally, this Bride of Blackenstein skit featured musical host Nicki Manaj as the bride with the “miracle booty”. What did you guys think of this episode?
