Small Asian Woman Eats 181 Chicken Wings
Folks, meet Sonja Thomas, who has not left my thoughts for a second since I read that she consumed 181 chicken wings in 12 minutes at the National Buffalo Wing Eating Contest over the weekend. I’m of average intelligence, but I have spent the better part of a day trying to wrap my head around the logistics of such a feat. I just can’t comprehend it.
So I decide to investigate the matter. Who is this Sonja Thomas? Ends up she is just a tiny Asian woman. Literally. Daily Mail reports that the 5’2″ 43 year old weighs just 105 pounds.
Where the hell do the wings go when she eats them? There is no way they can all fit in her stomach. Does she have a hidden camel hump?
Does she have hidden storage sacs in her forearms that burst forth like Popeye’s after eating a can of spinach? (And that happened to him after merely eating one can of SPINACH. What would happen if he ate 181 cans of Spinach? I shudder to think, but will venture a guess that he would simply burst from the sheer effort of containing the vegetative matter.)
These are the questions that keep me up at night. Let’s quickly examine a few facts.
The average chicken wing weighs about an ounce (according to multiple websites.) 181 wings = 181 ounces,which = 11.3 pounds. Now, the official count for the contest says that she ate about 4.86 pounds of wings, still impressive. That is like eating 20 quarter pound burgers. That breaks down into about 4,583 calories, though it seems like it would be more.
Now take those burgers and soak them in a mixture of butter and hot sauce. I would be on the toilet for a solid month. Somehow, this diminutive woman does this on a regular basis. This is her 3rd consecutive win at the contest, and she beat out a strapping man who was over six feet tall and 232 pounds.
Thomas is a competitive eater who has labeled herself “The Black Widow.” If any man has tried to live with her following one of these contests, it’s not hard to figure out why.
She has also participated in contests eating oysters, hard boiled eggs, and jalapenos, all the while maintaining a flat stomach.
