A Potpourri of Distractions: Things To Do During Lock Down

May 11, 2010

So, yesterday I received a call from my Parents Day Out program informing me that my daughter was ill (strep throat) and that I needed to come get her.  Parents reading this will understand what devastating news this was for me.  Sure, you feel terrible that your child is sick, but I daresay I felt worse about what this new development meant for my day.  Not only did my plans (FREEEEEEEDOM!) for the day get cancelled, but her diagnosis meant that she was contagious for 24 hours – which means Lock Down.  When I called the Mister to complain that every option available to me that keeps me from wanting to kill myself was now removed (no PDO, no nursery at the gym, no runs to Target, no playdates  – nothing) he replied thusly:

“Well, now there is nothing stopping you.”  The Bright Side, he always sees it.

In lieu of taking my own life, I opted to turn to the internets for entertainment during my house arrest.  Some goodies I found by chance, others were sent to me by concerned friends who took pity on me.  The Wealth, I shall share it:

-A clip of a young man covering Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi courtesy of  The young man has pipes, that’s for sure – but what intrigues me most about this is his musical choice.  I don’t know what the kids listen to these days, but Lady Gaga -popular though she may be – seems an odd choice for the Beiber Montana set.  Little dude is totally channeling some AFP at the piano.

-Old Spice commercials directed by Tim and Eric.  There are many, but this one was my very favorite.

-Speaking of Tim and Eric, this video of Paul Rudd dancing came out last week, but I will never tire of seeing it.  Not ever.

-5 second films.  These are magical, with a 5 second running time, your commitment is so brief – there is no excuse not to watch at least one.  Of course, one leads to another and another and so forth.  I am a sucker for Twilight mockery, so I deeply enjoyed this.

-This guy.

Also, I baked some delicious muffins.

I, too, am currently the interim warden in charge of the incarceration of a sick child. Actually, I am allowing Walt Disney to carry the bulk of the load while I amuse myself with the internets and wait for the real warden to get home from her day job.

Travis – Spongebob has really been the one to help me through this dark time. That, and the muffins.
