Happy Birthday Dee Snider!
You were right Dee; we do have the right to choose and by god, there’s no way we should lose it! This is our life! Our song!
It was 1984. I was busy thinking about Van Halen and Ms. Whatshername, the ultra-hot (at least to my adolescent mind) English teacher. Hot for Teacher? You better know it.
But when I first heard “We’re not gonna take it“, everything changed. I immediately knew that we should fight the powers that be, and that authority figures shouldn’t just pick our destiny because, let’s face it, they’d didn’t really “know” us; they didn’t belong.
And I knew then that we weren’t gonna take it; we weren’t going to take it at all.
We just would not take it anymore.
