Michael Jackson dead at 50

June 25, 2009

By Shannon

thrillerera1You’ll notice there is no RIP before his name.  That  is not an oversight on my part, but deliberate.

There is clearly no debate that Michael Jackson was indeed “The King of Pop”, and that he was a pop culture icon the likes of which we may not ever see again.  Over the course of the next few days we will see countless tributes to the entertainer, but let’s not forget that he was also a very flawed man who committed some pretty despicable acts in the latter part of his life.

I’ll respect him for the entertainer he was, but I am ashamed of the man he became.  He’ll go out  hailed a hero, when he was anything but.  That being said, I’ll acknowledge the pop legend whose songs were woven throughout the tapestries of my childhood and teenage memories. I’ve got a lump in my throat, same as you.

Michael Jackson died after going into cardiac arrest today.

Well said, Shannon. He was a music mastermind once upon a time.

You could not be more right! As a father of four, I am ashamed to say I once thought this person was an icon. His actions in life took away any of the glitter his talent portrayed. I too, hope the public realizes that the actions or lack there of that the man set forth, far outweighed any talent the man displayed. Excellent article!

True, sad, hearing of the big event yesterday. I agree with Sara, and you Shannon. Mixed feelings. I still rock out to “I want you back” and the magic of those grooves. Yet, the dude got weird and it is hard to ignore that part. That said, aren’t we all a little weird, maybe not that much OK, but still, to the essence of the little flawed guy I hold up my light tonight. Good luck, Mike.
