There is a good chance that you have already heard of my boyfriend, Demetri Martin. Our imaginary engagement has been a whirlwind romance, one which began around Christmastime when my current husband received a DVD copy of his one-man show, “Demetri Martin.Person.”, and which culminated when I saw him perform live last week at the Kansas City Uptown Theater. Mrs. Janey Pancake Demetri Martin has a lovely ring to it, does it not?
For those of you who are unfamiliar with my betrothed, Demetri Martin is an ambidextrous comedian/law-school drop-out. In his performances, he uses wordplay, puzzles, palindromes, music and drawings – all of which are formatted in the context of observations and analysis. For me to try and re-tell his material would result in an epic FAIL and I can’t bring myself to do it – for his sake and yours, dear readers. Rather, here is a link to a clip of him performing – if you like it, then I would recommend further viewing at Comedy Central, where you can watch his show, Important Things With Demetri Martin.
If you really, really like him, then I would be remiss if I didn’t encourage you to view his “ If I” show, the BBC recording of his early material and it is spectacular.
